Byju's Says Only 500 Job Cuts, Employees Counter And Say Massive Layoffs

 Amid news of edtech company Byju's having laid off 2,500 employees across its group companies, as reported in the media, the company issued a statement saying, it was "optimising" its teams across group companies. The company added that the "entire exercise involves less than 500 employees across Byju's group companies". "We strongly deny the misinformation presented by Moneycontrol. To recalibrate our business priorities and accelerate our long-term growth, we are optimizing our teams across our group companies. This entire exercise involves less than 500 employees from across Byju's group companies," a company spokesperson said. Byju's on Thursday said that less than 500 people have been laid off at Whitehat Jr and Toppr, but sacked employees have claimed that 1,100 staff had been retrenched at Toppr alone. China’s President Xi Jinping arrives in Hong Kong for 25th anniversary of handover

 Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong on June 30 ahead of the 25th anniversary of the British handover and after a two-year transformation bringing the city more tightly under Communist Party control. Putin's Fresh Warning To Finland, Sweden On Installing NATO Infrastructure

  Ashgabat, Turkmenistan:  Russia has "no problem" if Finland and Sweden join NATO, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday. "We don't have problems with Sweden and Finland like we do with Ukraine," Putin told a news conference in the Turkmenistan capital of Ashgabat. "We don't have territorial differences," the Russian leader continued. "There is nothing that could bother us about Sweden and Finland joining NATO. If Finland and Sweden wish to, they can join. That's up to them. They can join whatever they want." However, "if military contingents and military infrastructure were deployed there, we would be obliged to respond symmetrically and raise the same threats for those territories where threats have arisen for us," Putin said. Kidnapped woman forced to cook, eat human flesh in Congo, rights group tells UN

 A Congolese woman was kidnapped twice by militants in the Democratic Republic of Congo, repeatedly raped and forced to cook and eat human flesh, a Congolese rights group told the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday. Julienne Lusenge, president of women's rights group Female Solidarity for Integrated Peace and Development (SOFEPADI), told the woman's story while addressing the 15-member council about the conflict-torn east of Congo. The U.N. Security Council was meeting for a regular briefing on Congo, where heavy fighting between the government and rebel groups since late May has sparked a surge in violence. Lusenge said the woman was kidnapped by CODECO militants when she went to pay a ransom for another kidnapped family member. Killing of Hindu tailor prompts internet shutdown in Indian state over unrest fears

 Fearing outbreaks of religious violence, police in the Indian state of Rajasthan banned public gatherings and suspended internet services a day after two Muslims posted a video claiming responsibility for killing a Hindu tailor in the city of Udaipur.
